My Writing Tendencies

I have recently realized that I go through fads in my writing and speaking. Here are some that I can think of:

  • Rhetorical Questions - I seem to be using those a lot lately in my writing. It's starting to annoy me.
  • Short simple sentences - I don't usually use these consistently, but I've sure been using them today. I believe it is because a) I am tired and haven't the energy to make complex ones, b) It's how I'm thinking, and c) I don't have a great attitude right now.
  • Sarcasm - I tend to get rather sarcastic in my writing and it's not healthy. I used to struggle with that in my everyday language, (I tended to use it with people who didn't realize I was joking) and it sometimes shows in my writing - especially e-mails. It's rather disrespectful and is dangerous when you can't see the person using the sarcasm because you can't tell as clearly whether or not they mean what they are saying.
  • Since this class started and I've been made to do types of writing other than fiction, I realize that I tend to get too opinionated too quickly. I can be unkind in my writing.
  • Lack of thinking before making public - When I am tired I have trouble knowing what I'm writing and therefore may publish things I may later regret.

Let's hope this isn't one of them.
